Stabro Kasaneva

Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Kasaneva is a Geologist from the Universidad Católica del Norte, Chile, with over 30 years of experience in production geology, exploration and operation of precious metal deposits. Since Mr. Kasaneva joined Austral Gold in 2009, he has been instrumental in transforming the Company by consolidating the operation of Guanaco Mine in Chile, restarting operations at the Casposo Mine in Argentina as well as identifying a number of opportunities that represent the growth projection of Austral Gold. Throughout his career as a geologist, he worked on exploration and production gaining vast experience in grade control, QA/QC, modeling and geological resources estimation. Mr. Kasaneva led for several years Business Development Departments evaluating a number of mining business opportunities in South America, Central America and North America. He has held the role of General Manager of Mining Operations, Vice-President of Operations and COO. Mr. Kasaneva was appointed as CEO in August 2016.


Rodrigo Ramirez

Vice President of Operations

Mr. Rodrigo Ramirez assumed the role of VP of Operations as the Company looks to maximize efficiencies across three operations and seek out growth opportunities. Mr. Ramirez has been involved with the Company since it was founded, to recommission the Guanaco mine. Mr. Ramirez has led mining and engineering activities since then, as well as all reviews and analysis of the Company’s growth activities.  Mr. recently led the design and construction of the Company’s new agitation leach plant at Guanaco. Prior to joining Austral, had senior operational, planning and execution roles at Antofagasta PLC and at Meridian Gold’s (acquired by Yamana Gold) world class El Peñon mine. Mr. Ramirez has a Mining Engineering Degree from the University of Chile.


Raul Guerra

Vice President of Exploration

Mr. Guerra is a Geologist from the Universidad de Chile, with over 30 years of experience in economic geology and mineral exploration, mainly in the gold and copper mining business in Latin America. For several years, Mr. Guerra led the exploration activities for Barrick Gold throughout Latin America including projects in Chile, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Dominic Republic, Mexico and Central America. Among other contributions, he has an outstanding record of deposit discoveries and his major achievements include the participation and leadership of the teams which discovered:

  • 1995: Pascua-Lama (+20 Moz Au), El Indio Belt – Chile 
  • 2001: Lagunas Norte (+10 Moz Au), Peru
  • 2005: El Encierro (Cu+Mo+Au porphyry)
  • 2007: Monte Oculto (+7 Moz Au), Pueblo Viejo District – Dominic Rep.
  • 2012: Luciano (Au+Cu porphyry), Casale district – Chile
  • 2015: Alturas (+8 Moz Au), El Indio Belt – Chile

 Mr. Guerra was appointed as VP of Exploration in August 2020.


José Bordogna

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Bordogna has been instrumental in helping Austral to work towards its strategic objective of becoming a significant South America-focused precious metals mining and exploration company. In his time with the company, José has overseen the conversion of more than US$50 million in debt to equity, more than $15m in equity investments with TSX-V listed exploration companies with assets in South America, as well as more than US$50m in direct investments in key exploration and mining-related assets in Argentina and Chile.  Prior to joining Austral Gold, Mr. Bordogna worked for the International Finance Corporation and Deloitte & Touche in Latin America. He has over 10 years’ experience in finance, investment banking and accounting roles. Mr. Bordogna holds an Accounting degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina, a Masters of Corporate Finance from the Universidad del CEMA, Argentina and a Masters of International Business from the University of Sydney, Australia.
